Stayed in: Casco Antiguo Hostel
We decided to stay another night in Leon and have the girls join us here. Best laid plans.. We had trouble finding 5 beds in an albergue.. Peter is still with us. So we had to start calling the hostels. They are often more expensive. We found one, Casco Antiguo Hostel, right near cathedral, 49 euros for a condo with 5 beds! Perfect! We had a kitchen and our own bathroom, pure luxury! I had not had a bathroom to myself in weeks. How really wonderful! The guys went out to get ingredients for dinner so that I could enjoy our room with the bathroom and have a long hot shower.
Girls were supposed to arrive in the evening… But wait, tickets from Burgos to Leon sold out! Girls are stuck in Burgos another night. They will get tickets for tomorrow and head to Ponferrada where we will meet them. So two of the beds will be empty tonight.
After showering and a lovely spaghetti , broccoli, bean and salad dinner in the condo, stew and I left Peter and went to see the night life in Leon.
Very nice night. Got a wonderful gelato. So many people were on the streets. There were teens dressed up for a dance waiting to get into various restaurants and street performers playing tunes on the sidewalk. Only one bad sight: a guy palming a knife – we heard they do this to cut purse straps and steal your purse. That was a little scary.
Tomorrow we meet up with the girls – hope they get their bus tickets and can meet us in Ponferrada. Tonight we sleep in a room with just us – wow – luxury… well, Peter is also in the room – but no strangers!
