Flight from Madrid to JFK airport

Flight from Madrid to JFK airport
Queens County, NY

Queens County, NY
Stayed in: JFK terminal!

Out flight was at 5:30pm, so we after the sight seeing in Madrid we collected our bags from Abracadabra B& B.  On the way to the airport Stew wanted to go to a sport store and get Cole a souvenir.  So we girls sat on the sidewalk outside the subway entrance and waited for Stew to return… took longer than expected.   Subway ride also took longer to get to the Madrid airport and we reported to the wrong terminal. So, running late we finally reached the Aireuropa checkin desk and got checked in and off to our gate. It was at the entire other end of the terminal… Of course.  A little nervous and I’m worried our bag will not make the flight since we were so late.

Flight was good but long. We enjoyed the movies during the flight. We were all cramped after about 8 hours in our seats. We arrived at JFK and moved quickly through customs. Then we waited for our bag … Which as it turns out was still in Madrid.  UGH.  Customs is not happy.

Stew went up to the delta desk to try to get an earlier flight back to our side of PA. Unfortunately, most of northwestern pa flights were cancelled due to some storm around NYC… So we would have to wait until morning (9am) and we couldn’t even go through security. So we found a spot in the check-in area and tried to sleep.

People were sleeping all over, on carts, on benches, and on the floor. Luckily we had our sleeping bags! The morning was just as bad… We headed to T2, which if you have ever been to JFK I need not say more. It is filthy, packed, and the air conditioning was broken, we were tired and hot with no where to sit… Just terrible… bathroom smell filled the terminal because they were all overflowing.

We again tried for a different flight plan, but ended up heading to Detroit with another 4 hour layover. We ate lunch in Detroit, a clean comfortable airport…

Then …On to Erie!
