Grañón, Spain
Stayed in: San Jaun Baptista Alb.

Wow! The San Jaun Baptista albergue (Albergue Parochial in Grañón) is so neat. It is a bell tower with very narrow stone stairs, many levels. We were given a choice of the attic or main room to sleep… We chose the attic and had the place to ourselves.  This is an albergue you do not want to miss!!

There was a mass and then a communal dinner. Each country had to sing a song together.. Stew suggested we Americans sing “this little light of mine”, everyone knew the words.. It was great fun.  They made me a special dinner since I could not eat the main dish – everyone was jealous of my three egg omelette!

After dinner we were given an opportunity to return to the church for a quiet prayer time. It was awesome… We were led through a narrow passage to the choir area in the balcony. It was really neat.

There are no beds here, just mats. I again struggled with my legs and being cold. I did put on my compression pants and that does help with the aching at night!

The next morning we stayed for breakfast.

The girls finally got to Santo Domingo around 9:45pm… I was pretty worried! We paid ahead for their rooms but the albergue lock their doors at 10:00! They were exhausted after about 39km.
